There are many benefits to leasing a mare: leasing is much less expensive than purchasing a mature mare; mares not available for purchase may be available for lease; you can 'try-out' a cross before buying a mare; and, assuming breeding horses is a business venture, the lease fee is deductible as an expense rather than depreciated.

For stallions, many people lease for a few years to obtain outcross fillies for their stallion, or while their young colt matures. Others use a lease as a trial before purchasing. And, of course, show horses of all ages and genders are leased by people who want to show but are not sure they are ready for the longterm commitment of owning a horse.

We limit the mares we breed each year, so we usually have 15 to 20 mares available for lease each year. Listed here are mares who are not known to have had breeding problems in the past; many are maiden mares. Under certain circumstances, older mares and problem breeders may also be available, so if you see a mare on Our Mares page, feel free to ask about her availability. For a very limited time, special lease arrangements may be available -- normally our mare leases start at just $4000 with discounted board and all routine care of the mare and foal other than expenses specific to breeding (such as transported semen, palpations, stud fee) or foaling. Please contact us about these specials before all of our mares are reserved! Embryos may be available as well.

Please keep in mind that all mares are subject to being bred at any time. If you are considering leasing a particular mare, please let us know as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!
